Elk Hunt Success
2003 16 for 16
2004 18 for 18
Welcome to Utah's elk and deer hunting destination. The Johnson Mountain Ranch is a Cooperative Wildlife Management Units (CWMUs). The CWMU is a hunting area consisting of private lands that have been authorized for the specific purpose of managing for trophy deer and elk. The CWMU program is an effort to recognize the contribution made by private landowners in providing big game habitat on their private range lands. In return, a number of public hunters are allowed to hunt on these lands. Both private and public hunters generally enjoy higher success on CWMUs, with less hunting pressure. Hunters usually have a better opportunity to harvest a mature animal on CWMUs.

Sprawling over 13,000 acres of pristine wild country, the Johnson Mountain Ranch CWMU is co-owned by the Fishlake Wildlife Reserve and the Johnson family. The ranch is located approximately 18 miles East from Salina, Utah along I-70. Visitors last year reported seeing good numbers of elk and deer in addition to: coyotes, black bears, moose, cougar, a tremendous variety of rabbits, grouse, beaver, song birds and raptors.

Our ranch is primarily known for our elk herd, but there are some great deer hunting opportunities as well. We hunt bull elk exclusively throughout September and cow elk and deer in October. We also have some archery hunting opportunities in late August.
